Styled Canvas HQ

Well it’s been a crazy busy couple of weeks. The sudden move of house threw us into chaos and then last week, one by one, each of us got a good dose of the flu. We’re still not fully recovered (from the move and the flu) but today, I do see the light at the end of the tunnel.

This weekend with most of the boxes empty, Guillaume and I began the fun part of adding our touch to the place. I woke up this morning and felt like we were “home” and a tinge of excitement for our new space and possibilities. The lounge is almost ready, we’re just waiting on a low TV cabinet that we’re getting custom made. We gained an extra living room in the house, so we need a new rug to give some warmth around the lounge that sits on a polished concrete floor. I can’t wait to show you the room once it’s complete, it’s got a great feel.

For now, you’ll probably recognise our bookshelf. The previous two homes we kept a very similar set up, so I was determined to do something a little different this time. There will certainly be a few more tweaks as we go but this is it for now. My favourite additions are the vintage library letters that I bought after doing the Flotsam & Jetsam Warehouse story. We got a letter for each of our names, and it’s a nice representation of our family as this bookshelf greets you as you enter the house.

I’ll keep you updated as I progress but I have to say that the place I’m most excited about is my workspace! It’s not my very own room, but I love the set up and can feel that it’s going to be a really inspiring spot to work from.

Moving is tough and I was trying to stay positive about having to uproot the family again when all I really felt like was crying. It came at the worse possible time, coinciding with my three weeks in Sydney and I was having a mild panic attack at how time consuming it would be. Looking back, it’s good to shake things up a little and quite often when life dishes these challenges, you come out much better on the other side. I can see that we’re going to be very happy here.

Do feel like that about life’s challenges?

It seems you tried to make it a rather positive experience and I am really happy for you, you already feel at home. There is nothing better that being so lucky to get a ‘positive energized’ home and you truly deserve it all, Mel. The first sneak peek looks really nice and pretty spacious. Hope you are done very soon and can relax by then (physically and mentally). G, xx

Hi Mel, long time since I read all my favorite blogs like yours! The parts of your home in these photos look gorgeous! Looking forward seeing more :-) I hope you are doing alright in NZ. Feels like such a long time ago since we saw each other in Auckland. So many things have happened since then ;-) Xx
