I always love that lone armchair in the home. Quite often it sits in the bedroom, beckoning for an item of clothing to be thrown over at the end of the day or sitting elegantly beside a sideboard in the living room. It’s a statement piece, a chair that doesn’t get that every day use, but is always there as a back up to be pulled out for that extra person.

Pick Up Sticks, the latest armchair to be designed by Simon James for Resident here in New Zealand would suit that purpose perfectly. Launched at Edit by Design Junction during the Salone del Mobil in Milan in April, and finalist in the 2014 Home Magazine Design Awards. It’s without a doubt that this chair would certainly add a bit of eye candy to a room. The solid oak frame is impressive in its form and design with the upholstered components manufactured separately for shorter lead times. While there are a variety of custom colour options available,  I don’t know about you but I quite fancy the quilted fabric choice.

Happy weekend!

I am fascinated by the so called Spanish chair (just learned that name) with deeply tanned leather. I have a different armchair in my bedroom using it on a daily base, not for its designed purpose but just as a bedcover storage place until the next morning. Have a wonderful weekend, Mel, hugs from Venice.

  • Self care #1. I've really been focusing on looking after myself lately, mind body and soul. I arrived back from Sydney to this beautiful new hand ritual by @compagniedeprovence . The volcanic rock and cocoa butter scrub has left my hands so so soft and the hand balm lovely and nourishing. Our hands get such a workout, it's nice to give them a once a week pampering after a long soak in the bath. #compagniedeprovence #cittadesign
  • Five years ago today, our little family (with the youngest in my tummy) arrived in this beautiful country called New Zealand. Feeling very grateful to this place and its people. Whakawhetai koe Aotearoa
  • For the first time in years I played tourist in my own city. I grew up with season tickets to the ballet here. Being away for almost five years, I realised that my children haven't been exposed to this magnificent piece of architecture. I could have spent hours walking in and around the Sydney Opera House. From every angle, another work of art and picture. #jornutzon #architecture #sydneyoperahouse
  • My little people remembering fallen soldiers with a little reenactment today. Their Papi (granddad) is the best teacher and they even got to see him talk at a service last night. #anzacday #lestweforget
  • Can't beat salty air, the laugh of kookaburras to wake me each morning and days filled with friends and family. It's good to be home. #sydney #coogee
  • Tulips from a sweet friend over the weekend. They're looking a little tired today in their vase but I'm milking every last bit, they are simply too beautiful to throw away until every last petal has fallen.
  • I've had a crazy few weeks that I was totally unprepared for and quite literally floored me. Life does that to you sometimes, but I think there's always a lesson to be learnt from these challenges. Today I'm feeling grateful for family, friends and simple things. Happy new week everyone!
  • From quite simply the best husband.
  • Been doing a lot of this in the sun lately ☕️🌞
  • My lovely friends at @gatherum.collectif showed some quince kindness. How good for the soul to arrive home to find this on the doorstep last Friday. I can assure you that not one was wasted @fiona.hugues @jani.shepherd - our family is in jam heaven! Thank you 😘
  • A lovely weekend with friends, family, reading and baking Papa's chocolate birthday cake. Meet my helper 😋 Happy new week everyone and thank you for your comments last week.
  • Hope you all had a great Easter weekend. Sorry for the silence on my end here and on the the blog. Life's dealt me a challenge suddenly which requires a shift of focus for the moment. Had a lovely weekend away with my beautiful family and friends though, which couldn't have come at a better time. ☺️
