Leaving on a Jet Plane

As I write this, I’m about to hop on a plane to Sydney. Alone! Yes, just me, with a handbag full of my things. No toys, wipes or snacks. In the six and half years I’ve been a mother, I’ve never gone away alone – sure, I have for weekends away with my husband but not just me and certainly not over the ocean. It feels so good and kind of strange at the same time, I pretty sure I’m going to miss my babies like crazy…

My mother turns seventy this weekend so my sisters and I are taking her away for the weekend to a beautiful place on the south coast where she used to spend her holidays as a child and where we in turn spent our early holidays. It’s going to be such a special time, a mother with her three grown up children together for a weekend. At the tail end of it, I will stay a couple of nights and only one entire day in the city to catch up with a few friends and soak up a little of Sydney’s buzz and perhaps a white sandy beach…

I haven’t packed a lot in my hand luggage for the plane as I intend to watch a movie and be waited on. Funny how once something like a plane trip was dreaded, is now luxury – a moment to stop and relax.  I’ve borrowed Guillaume’s travel headphones for the occasion – he travels a lot for business so he owns things like good quality headphones for air travel! I’ve also packed “The Happiness Project” I bought it the other day and pick it up every chance I get. I actually wrote about this book and Kikki K’s commitment to this last year so I’m very happy to finally be reading it.

So off I go, to a week of freedom and fun!

Hi Mel, sorry for being so slow with the uptake – I got a glimpse of this on social media before you left and was so excited for you. Even more wonderful that it was for your mother’s birthday. I hope you had an amazing time x x

Thanks Tina. I didn’t really get the time to take pics other than a few family ones. Hey great site, I just checked it out. Often the conversation between my husband and me! M xx

Sounds like you have some very good days ahead! Enjoy! :) And what you say about plane trips is so true – I used to not like flights that last over 2 hours, but when I’m thinking about a plane trip right now it seems like a good time to read or do something else I don’t have time everyday. And I have been a mother only for 9 months – I can’t imagine how strong this feeling would be after 6 years! :)

How wonderful – wishing you a fantastic time! I did the same last year…a trip with my mum and sister to Melbourne – no kids, it felt odd but fantastic too!
I read ‘The Happiness Project’ not that long ago – Ive passed it onto my sister now…enjoy!!!
