Finding A Bargain Part 3

Oh what a morning I’ve had! Firstly it’s school holidays here in New Zealand so I’ve got my hands full with my three little ones running around and to top it off, my husband returned from a work trip to find that his car didn’t start, so we had to wait all morning for it to be towed away much to the delight of the kids.

As promised in my Potence d’éclairage post, I took some photos to show you our retro swing arm lamp. I have to confess that we got it for an absolute bargain! Then on looking at the corner set up, I realised that pretty much everything there was bought for a great price. I’m probably going to get a reputation for being a bargain hunter and I guess it’s true in a way, I do know a good buy when I see it. To be perfectly honest, I’ve also spent way too much money on things; especially emotional buys so I guess it’s all about balance.

First up, my all time best buy would have to be the vintage files drawers, but I’ve already written about them here in part two.

The swing arm lamp certainly sits at the top of the lists of favourites. We purchased it for $25 about five years ago in a junk store in Thirroul, about an hour south of Sydney. This place is an absolute gem and we’ve found so many interesting things there over the years.  If ever you do the drive south to Wollongong, make sure you do the scenic route and stop by for a good hunt. We’re so happy to have this lamp up again as it’s been in a box for the past couple of years.

The painting was a steal for $10 and is actually one of three that we bought at a garage sale in Darlinghurst, Sydney. I already spoke one of the others in part one.

Terracotta pots are huge at the moment. I’ve been watching the trend unfold and I’ve been yearning for all of my aged terracotta pots back home in Sydney that my mother is holding for me. We bought this one the other day at Mitre 10 for $3.50 and the anthurium, for $21.

Have you found any bargains lately? So what do you think of my lamp?

Wishing you all a fantastic weekend!
