There’s something about this photo of Cameron standing at the entrance of Flotsom and Jetsam.  While editing the photos for this post, I had the urge to turn it to black and white, to somehow pay homage to the history of this shop front, just as Cameron does on his website, using an old photo from the original shop, Steptoe & Son. It then went on to become Lord Ponsonby’s Antiques, and just last month, opened its doors to Flotsam and Jetsam after outgrowing its old premises.

Guests Coming to Stay

I have guests arriving next week – my sister, her husband and my three beautiful nieces and nephew! We are so excited to have them come visit!

I’m wondering how can I best receive them? Now in an ideal world, we would have a lovely big spare room with an ensuite bathroom for our guests to comfortably stay. The reality is that we have a sofa bed in a small room at the back of the house, that’s currently used as a bit of a multipurpose space.

Cool Kitsch Act 3

I have one last little kitsch item to add to the mix, although this vintage Cascade Beer bottle opener is a little subtler than the previous two.

I was in my late teens and my ex-boyfriend’s family was sorting through the belongings of his great aunt, who had recently passed away. I rescued it from the charity pile and it has since opened countless beer bottles for my guests. It also keeps the memory of this woman, whom I had never actually met, alive somehow. Kind of nice isn’t it?
