When it feels like we’ve just moved into our home, off we leave in search of another! There’s no denying it, this is my life for a while so I may as well embrace it. Before my “new” home is old news, I thought I should start sharing photos of it, starting today with our living room.
The day I put the new rug down, I finally felt that our home was complete. It was the one area that really bothered me and it was important. I mean, what’s a sofa without a great rug in front of it right? When I discovered the beautifully handmade Nodi Rugs a couple of years ago, I knew that one day I had to own one. The move and having an extra living space was the perfect excuse. We of course had to wait a little bit and save our pennies, but we finally got it and I was so happy with our choice.
I do love polished concrete floors but our grey sofa against it looked really wishy washing and needed to be broken up. We went for the navy blue jute, which I feel gives it a smart, sophisticated finish. I have no doubt that it was a great investment and it’s going to look gorgeous in our future Stockholm home. Fingers crossed for a herringbone floor to put it on.
The original home is an old state housing. They’ve got solid structures but are traditionally small and poky. The owners undertook a renovation a couple of years ago and extended it into an L shape to create a larger second living area that opens onto the garden. I love how they made it into a sunken room; it defines the space well and gives the house so much more personality. I’ll show you what else the owners did in the upcoming instalments along with how I decorated it.

Love the sunken room. Your house is such an inspiration. We live in a rental, a small 1 bedroom and it pays to be creative when defining and adding character to a space. I noticed that your windows don’t have curtains. Was this how the house was when you arrived or a conscious choice?
Thanks Genie:) There were curtains, and while I do like curtains, I wasn’t a fan of them so we took them down to store them. Having said that, they’re back up now to keep the warmth in! With rentals, I’ve learnt to not be afraid to store (safely) things I don’t like (curtains, blinds, light fittings) and replace with my own when I can. Mel xx
