A quick hello to share a very special new addition to my plant family, a parting gift from Igor, one half of the Urban Jungle Bloggers founders. In case you didn’t know, I’ve had the absolute pleasure of hanging out him and Philippe the past couple of days and showing them ‘my Auckland’.
Isn’t it the sweetest little cactus? Igor was so thoughtful and snuck back to BioAttic, one of the cool stores we visited together, to get it for me. I immediately found the perfect spot for it on the kitchen windowsill, however that was last month’s theme, so here he is hanging out with my origami crane for now. That classifies as an animal right? If not, perhaps the two strangers below might pass for “Urban Jungle Bloggers, Jungle Animals”…
I’ve had such a great time hanging out with Igor and Philippe, showing them my favourite green corners of Auckland before they take off on a four-week tour of New Zealand. Seriously, how lucky are they to have this ahead of them? They have THE BEST itinerary worked out, so make sure you follow along on Instagram.
While I love all of the creativity and learning that comes with blogging, I’d have to say that one of the best parts has been the connections that I’ve made along the way. It’s this new world where we build friendships online and when you meet up, the funny thing is that you truly feel like you know each other, and you’re immediately comfortable in each other’s company, like catching up with an old friend. They came to my home for dinner last night and Igor and I laughed about how he felt like he already knew my family, and of course, corners of my home!
I can tell you that if you haven’t met Igor in person, and only know him through his blog and social media, know that he is the real McCoy and his persona that shines through the world wide web, is a truly genuine one. I find that so very refreshing and it’s been a pleasure to have him and Philippe here.

Well this blogpost made me blush in all colors – just like the sunset here in Russell! Thank you so much Mel for a wonderful time in Auckland with you and your adorable family. Secretly I’m already in love with your kids!!!! Give them a hug on my behalf! Meeting you was really like meeting a good old friend! And here’s to our friendship – I’m toasting with a glass of chilled rosé from the Bay of Islands!
