Ladies and Gentlemen - Aura Wind Chime - Douglas + Bec

Did you once own a wind chime? Mine was made out of half a coconut with seashells hanging from it. I bought it during my very first holiday away with friends (no parents in sight) to Byron Bay on the far north New South Wales coast.

It was during the summer holidays and afterwards I came back home and feeling so grown up, I took ownership of my bedroom. I painted the walls from girly pink to white while Bob Marley (early 90’s!) played on the stereo in the background. This was all in preparation for my coconut and shell chime. I remember how good it felt hooking it to the ceiling once the paint had dried and it continued to make me feel good each time I heard it through a breeze.

This memory was sparked by my discovery of The Ladies & Gentlemen chimes at Douglas & Bec. They’re beautiful and somewhat more sophisticated than the one I bought in a seaside shop in Byron Bay all of those years ago. Seattle artist Nicholas Nyland, crafts them by hand with brass and ceramics, which emits a soft metallic sound in the breeze. I feel relaxed just thinking about it and they’ve now been added to my wish list.

I’ve seen a few chimes on Pinterest of late and I can feel a little wind chime trend coming on. What do you think?

Beautiful windchime such a lovely find Mel. Just before our first open for inspection we spied an old windchime in a tree in the backyard covered in cobwebs that we unceremoniously yanked from the branch & tossed in the bin. I love windchimes, the sound/music is so relaxing.

I saw exactly the same chimes on pinterest and thought about making a minimal one like that for myself. Thanks for the reminder and yes – I think you’re right about the wind chimes trend!
