A Long Weekend

We just had a one perfect long weekend full of glorious sunshine in Auckland. I didn’t go away, I just hung out and spent some quality time with the kids. Each morning we moved slowly, staying in our pajamas and enjoying late breakfasts on the deck, one of the mornings it was pancakes, always a favourite. We usually have it simply with maple syrup but with none in the house we topped them with boysenberry jam and banana fritters. I could spend hours on that deck with those little people (and sunshine)!

Guillaume had to leave for France on the spur of the moment on Thursday so the beginning of the weekend was spent preparing for my Mother to arrive from Sydney with very little notice. I needed someone to look after the three kids while I put my student hat on for the entire next weekend at The School! Mum’s are great aren’t they? This is a woman who has driven two hours in the middle of the night to come and look after Paolo and me when I was pregnant with Noam and fell so ill that I thought I’d go into early labour. Now that I’m living away from family, I realise how much I took all of that help for granted…

We cleaned up the garden somewhat, Noam and Lou ever so helpful with the baby wheelbarrow and rakes. Paolo, helped for a whole twenty minutes, but he’s six and has other things on his mind. We also organised the room that Mum will stay in, rearranging furniture and forcing me to finally unpack that last dreaded box that I’ve been eyeing for the last four and a half months. Most of all, I barely touched the computer or iPhone other than for the odd Instagram pic. It felt so great!

I also enjoyed my first Peonies of the season for as long as possible, resisting the urge to buy some more. The petals just kept on holding on ever so gracefully, I think they’re the most beautiful at that point, like an elegant old lady.

I hope that  you had a nice weekend everyone, long or not. See you Friday!

Hi Mel – I just popped over from the BYW class and loved this post! Breakfast in the sun looks very inviting and I am so jealous of your peonies! We are just going into winter in the UK so peony season is a distant memory.

Hi Julie and thanks for popping over:) Oh I know how you feel, I remember too well reading all of the blogs of the northern hemisphere when it was winter here. Sadly it’s raining in Auckland at the moment. Mel x

Wonderful long weekend Mel. Bravo for your Mother, my parents were always super helpful to me as well when my children were young, so lucky! I’m sure you’re enjoying spending time with her and enjoy your lessons at The School this weekend. You’ll be super inspired. xx
