When I read on Megan Morton’s Facebook feed that she was holding a Horses Birthday Fete at The School while I was in Sydney, I have to admit I was kind of thrilled that I’d finally get to see some of her magic first hand, and before her New Zealand Roadshow in November (more of that at the end).

But a Horses Birthday fete? I didn’t even realise horses had birthdays until then! Apparently they do as a benchmark for the racing season.  The idea for the fete came from Victoria Carey, the editor of Country Style Magazine when she noticed the horseshoe earrings that Megan was wearing. Any excuse to throw a fete I say, especially when there isn’t a crocheted doll toilet roll cover in sight. No, this was full of the best stands you’d hope to find while visiting a flea market or French brocante.

With my love affair for vintage, I was really drawn to The Lost & Found Department stand. Silvia, the storeowner, had such an interesting range of wares and I especially fell for the vintage calligraphy brushes and ended up buying three of them, now I regret not purchasing more, as I could imagine a bunch of them would look stunning in a vase.

Unfortunately most of the things at craft extraordinaire, Tamara Maynes’ stand had been snapped up by the time we got to it, but if I were living in Sydney I would have certainly have bought the yellow beaded chandelier in a flash. It was just divine!

Now the good news for us Aucklanders is that Megan Morton is finally bringing The School here on a roadshow in November! Here’s the line up of all of the fun things you can learn:

Vignettes – Kara Rosenlund

Science of Styling – Megan Morton

Photoshop for Bloggers and Beginners – Simone Madigan

Instagram Debunked – Stephanie Somebody

Photography 101 – Brooke Holm

Kids Room Decorating – Megan Morton

Truly this is going to be fantastic! As soon as I heard it was coming to Auckland, I signed up for two of them and I’m pretty sure I’ll do a couple more. That is if I’m quick enough – apparently classes are filling quite fast now.  Are you going? Let me know if we’ll be students together!

If you read my Sydney Instagram Roundup on Monday, you might recall that I met fellow blogger, Anastasia from Anastasia Drawing and Dreaming there. It was such a delight to meet her in person and I have to say, the good thing about having a date with a blogger is that you don’t have to explain, nor excuse yourself for spending so much of the time taking photos! You can read about Anastasia’s experience here.

Have a fantastic weekend everyone! It’s my baby girl, Lou’s 2nd birthday today – oh where does time go? I better go try to figure out how to do a kids birthday cake which is certainly not my forte!

it was such a fun day out – cant wait to hear about your course at ‘The School NZ’! should be great! Did you style up your vintage brushes? I saw a beautiful photo of an Artist studio and he had some brushes hanging on a picture frame …a nice way to style them!
