If you’ve ever found yourself at the Petite Kitchen blog, more than likely you would have been seduced by the beautiful imagery and message that Eleanor has for her readers, to enjoy clean simple food and to get lost for the afternoon in your kitchen. You really do feel like doing just that. This is no ordinary blog, it’s something that was born out of the love for her daughter whom suffered from extreme and what was thought to be incurable eczema and mood swings. On the advice of her naturopath, Eleanor eliminated sugar, grains, additives and preservatives from her family’s diet and now her daughter’s behavioral problems and eczema is a thing of the past.

Eleanor’s family enjoys simple, clean food that is both delicious and nourishing and her message is spreading. She has gone on to publish two seasonal recipe journals that have both sold out, has a weekly food column for Viva Magazine and just this week, Eleanor announced that she has signed a Petite Kitchen Cookbook publishing contract with Murdoch Books, to be available in Australia, New Zealand and the UK early next year.

It’s without saying that I am delighted to have Eleanor answer my 5 Food Questions today.

Over to you Eleanor…

Could you please describe your perfect leisurely breakfast?

Free range eggs poached in buttery mushrooms and spinach with a delicious fresh fruit salad topped with thyme, lemon honey drizzle and some goats cheese. And lets not forget a lovely steaming mug of organic black coffee. Perfect.

Do you have a particular meal that you find you keep returning to when you have friends for dinner?

There is one particular dish, which is always a winner. Fennel, leeks and cauliflower baked in cream with garlic, rosemary and oregano. It is incredibly rich and creamy, and topped with crispy cheddar or parmesan. Definitely a favorite in our household. Comfort food at its best!

Sweet or savoury?

This is a tough one! I would have to say savory.

Where do you find most of your inspiration for the recipes in your journals?

I read quite a few other food blogs, and own quite a large collection of beautiful cookbooks. To be honest, most of the recipes are what we eat on a daily basis, using the ingredients we already have in the fridge and the pantry. Most of my dishes are a more wholesome twist on the classics, so are never too fancy or intimidating. I try to keep them as simple as possible too, especially having two young kids!

Food is….

something incredibly beautiful, useful and delicious that can both nourish your body and mind.

Thank you so much for taking the time to pop by Eleanor!

Readers if you haven’t done so already, make sure you pop over to Petite Kitchen. You can also follow her on Facebook and Instagram. Have a lovely Wednesday and see you back here on Friday!

What a beautiful blog and so lovely to hear the story behind that piece of food art bog:-) There’s SO many recipes I have to try. The boiled orange chocolate cake sounds almost too good to be true!! For 2 year we have tried to limit our intake of starch and sugar, so I’m definitly going to go back to this gem! thank you for sharing this amazing blog!

I recently discovered Petite Kitchen and was blown away. I’m inspired by the story behind Eleanor’s work as much as the beautiful meals she produces. I was just drooling over that cauliflower, salmon and fried egg creation on her blog earlier in the week – same effect seeing it on your blog – I so need to make it! Great interview Mel x
