I really do love a good flea market and the Surry Hills Market is one of my favourite little haunts and was once a monthly ritual for me. I’d walk there from our terrace house via Bourke Street Bakery for a take away coffee and pan au chocolat and spend my Saturday morning wandering around, soaking up the atmosphere, finding treasures and of course, people watching. It felt great to be back there this weekend.
I was so intrigued by the Anatomical Stand that I thought I would showcase it as a stand-alone and post a part two of the markets.
The way stores and shops curate their stock always fascinates me, it’s a work of art and I can learn so much from them. The store owner, Angela does such a wonderful job with her impressive collection of all things medical and the like.
I once owned some metal hospital drawers exactly like these above and gave them to my sister when she was starting out – big regret!!!
I love how she uses playing cards to display the price.
This frame put together with vintage stamps and figurines is such an effective picture display and would be a fun DIY don’t you think?

One of my regrets when I visited Sydney recently was not going to the Surry Hills Market. We did Glebe, Rozelle and Balmain instead. Definitely on the ‘to do’ list for next time. Bourke St Bakery is one of my and my daughters all time favourite bakeries..the sausage rolls and creme brulee tarts are to die for..you must be loving being back in Sydney for a while Mel..keep enjoying!
