10 Things To Do Around Your House This Weekend

If your home is feeling a little tired, here are some ideas to give it, and you, a new lease of life.  Test that theory that a change is as good as a holiday…

1) Decorate for a bargain

Check for garage sales or flea markets in the area and go bargain hunting. Some of my favourite things have been bought like this.  Ten years ago we purchased a set of three original paintings for $30 at a garage sale and we still love them today.

2) Group little things

Do you have little objects scattered around the house? Why not make a feature of them and group them.

3) Rearrange furniture

Grab your partner or your friend and shift things. You may even discover that you’ve created a much better flow to the room.

4)  Dedicate an area where it’s all about you

Find a lovely spot at home, whether it’s beside a window or under a shady tree in the garden. Make it your little place that you go to, to stop and unwind.

5) Paint or Stick or Chip

Be it a coat of white paint or a feature wall of removable wallpaper, by committing to just one room, you won’t break the budget or your back and it would make a huge difference!  If you’ve got an old house with original plaster walls over old brick, you could get a bit more serious by chipping away at the plaster to expose an old brick feature wall like we did in our old apartment.

6) Bring the outdoors in

Whether it’s an indoor plant or a bunch of flowers hand picked from the garden, there’s nothing like nature to freshen a room.

7) Rearrange paintings

Try something new. Group a bunch of different ones together, place them on your floor in different configurations and get creative. Don’t always go for the obvious.

8) Organise something

Whether it’s the pantry, the wardrobe or the kids toys, turn the music up, put the timer on for a set amount of time and stick to it, focussing fully on the task. Make four piles: rubbish, charity, sell and keep. I promise you’ll feel good!

9) Change the light

A new ceiling or table light will do wonders for the look of a room. If you’re on a budget, Ikea have some great inexpensive designs.

10) Paint a tired piece of furniture

If the item of furniture is doing the job but not looking crash hot, why not give it a makeover by painting it!

I hope that some of these ideas have given you some inspiration. Do you have any feel good ideas for the home? I’d love to hear about them!

I won’t be here on Monday because I’m off on a mini holiday with my visiting family. I will be back here on Wednesday though, hopefully reporting on a little something from my break – enjoy yourselves until then!
